Nevada bound
«
on:
May 16, 2015, 10:34:00 AM »
Uncle is sending me to Nellis Air Force Base for almost all of June.... Seeing how it is an active duty base and I'm guard, I will not be taking my bow along.
I was wondering if there are any trad shops around the Las Vegas area that would be a good place to check out?????
I saw that Maddog moved just west of L.V. Anything else to keep a country boy out of the casinos???
Thanks,
Rodd

Well, I know if it were me, I'd be in more trouble in the trad shop than in a casino
Thank you for your service !

If you were up in Reno, you would be set at House of Arrows. Do not go that far south, but there are guys on site to help you. Most large bases have archery ranges. Call up MWR at Nellis to see, and then ask your CO for a pass.

I lived in Vegas for 13 years, moved to Utah in 2014. As far as I know, there is not a dedicated traditional shop there. Pacific Archery does have an indoor traditional shoot, I think, one day a week or maybe its once a month. Inventory however is pretty much geared to the wheelie guys. Basspro has an indoor range as well.

I lived there a few years back and Bass pro was about the only place that had trad gear that I found from what I recall.....

Lots of Desert Bighorn sheep out that way. I'd get in touch with the Wild Sheep Foundation Nevada chapter or go to the Bowsite and look up Nvagvup (Kyle Metzler) and find out where the water projects are and do some hiking and glassing and photographing.

That stinks that you'll be missing the shooting around here, but the mountains out there are beautiful!
You'll definitely have to get up into the hills and take some pics! I'll have some pictures of my trip to Colorado to show you at our next 3D shoot.

There are 2 pro shops. Pacific Archery might be a good place to start. The other, Impact Archery is geared more toward compound.
Both have indoor ranges, but for a real treat check this out!

Carson City is about 6 hours from Vegas, but Tim is an amzing guy just to listen to. Shooting one of his bows at his shop is top of the line.
Kit Kat Drive is well named as the legal brothels are on that street. Tim just smiles when he hears people navigate to his place with those directions

I mean, your welcome to check it out if you want, but it's not really what one might expect.
