Im loaded with them
Watch em daily scamper in the yard feasting on hidden nuts.
Unfortunatley they are off limits til Sept. (I think one showed me his middle finger)

Come on September.

Sounds like you may be able to shoot a few in self defense.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure if they're on your property and after your nuts, you can legally shoot them in self defence.     ;)

If you get one be sure to post pics! Those little guys are hard to hit and even harder to kill. Pound for pound the toughest animals in the woods. I haven't been able to get one with traditional equipment but shot lots with a compound when I was a kid.

Yep, been quite a few here this year. Maybe we'll have a good mast this fall?

Wish Indiana had a spring season, too!

Not sure what the laws are for shooting one off season (even in self defense)  ;)

Missouri's squirrel season opened up this past Saturday, 5/23/15, and I've been working on them with my flintlocks. While I can't show you any trophy photos since they involve firearms (even primitive ones), I can show you what I had for supper Sunday night. Pan fried squirrel, fried taters and onions, gravy and a buttermilk biscuit. I threw in the broccoli for color and to remind any kid reading this to eat your vegetables. Topped it all off with some peach cobbler. I may not be pretty but I can cook!

It doesn't get much better than that. You need to post the recipe for those biscuits.

I will second that Darren can cook!!!!
That's why we take him hunting with us. We set him up to tag out the first day so he can cook the rest of the week.   :biglaugh:

There ain't much to the biscuits, fellers.

4 cups flour
2 Tbsp baking powder
2 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup of shortening or lard (I like butter flavored Crisco)
2 cups buttermilk

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Cut in the shortening until the mixture is crumbly. Slowly add the buttermilk and stir it all up until your dough in uniform. Turn the dough out on a floured surface and roll it to about a 1/2" thickness. Cut out you biscuits and place them on a baking sheet. Bake at 400 deg F for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Makes about a dozen biscuits.

Enjoy!

D-how do you like to fry em up? I am partial to a batter of flour and cornmeal myself. Then green beans and cornbread. Topped off with an ice cold beer  :) . I have been after them with the bow but, no luck as of yet.

My father would disown me if he ever found this out but I use olive oil instead of good old fashioned animal fat to fry in. I season the meat with a variety of spices, flour it and let dry for a bit. Then I pour on a mixture of egg and buttermilk and roll the wet meat in seasoned flour again.

We have open season all year around here.  I shot one this morning and got lucky with the arrow hitting him in the back of the head. Dog got to him before I could, though.

I'm always so tempted. I have about 6 regulars in my yard and trees. It wouldn't exactly be fish in a barrel but also probably not "fair chase" as far as thats concerned. Last year they tore open the cushions on my patio chairs and used the stuffing for their nest. That got my goat. They also terrorize my dogs since they keep just on the other side of the buried electric fence, but they give them a work out so I don't mind. If a blacky ever shows up he may have to take one for the team but the greys are safe for now.

Also, I just put a garden in, has anyone ever had a squirrel tear up their gardens? Nothing uncommon, some corn, watermelons, tomatoes, herbs and such. Just wondering if they like that stuff. I dont have any deer around here and very few rabbits.
