Made me a new riser G10 / Bubinga
« on: June 12, 2015, 12:30:00 AM »
It´s been a while since I showed up here ...

I hope y´all doing well and your arrows are flying straight

Here´s some pics of my new riser that I made last winter

Made out of G 10 glass and Bubinga wood

Carbon reinforced with maple accent stripes and horn overlays

I love the weight of that riser .... naked riser weight about 1.4 kg

the only thing that I´m not really satisfied with is ... color of the woods do not really match with my limbs .... oh well ....

greetings from across the pond
Daniel

Wow!  I work with a lot of G-10 garolite myself and doing that kind of a radius footing using G-10 is incredible. that stuff is down right brutal on tools and very hard to machine.....  Big thumbs up to ya bro....          :notworthy:    :notworthy:

If you'd like to share how you went about building that i'd love to here the story... Hat's off to ya on a beautiful job..... That's a pretty wild looking grip shape too.

Beautiful work. I have a request: could you post a picture of you holding the riser? Due to the design, I would like to see the placement of the fingers. Thank you.

KirkII

I hear yea brother      :wavey:
that stuff dulls my bandsaw blades, files and tools as quick as quick can be ...

as for building it ...

here´s some pics

Cutting out the Bubinga middle section here ... that´s the easy part as you know

here comes the harder part .... cutting the  G10 ...
I always cut next to the drawing line - leaving a bit of the material

and now the hardest part - at least that is for me .....

carefully sanding until them pieces fit together without any gaps between the materials ...

carbon stripes for reinforcement with maple accent stripes

glueing it together with 2 part epoxy and let dry at room temperature for at least 24 hours - NO HEAT BOX here

here´s what it looks like after sanding off excessive glue ... and drilling bolt down holes ...

I do not have any more pics about the process of making ...

Sorry about that

By the way I like your bows especially the one you made for Rick ******

----------------------------------------------------------------

I will go and do a video on how I hold / grip the bow and will show some shooting as well ...

But bare with me here, the video making will be taking quite some time ...

gimme a week or so ...

Thank you all for liking

greetings from across the pond
Daniel

Very nice looking bow.  I don't want to high jack this thread, but I'm curious about your quiver and the two shorter arrows?

EDIT: never mind, I just found the thread about the armguard/quiver.

Great job, you are a true craftsman. I love the g 10 material. I wish Border would start using that. I would love to have a Covert Hunter made with it.

Daniel, Joel Turner saw your video on thumb shooting and now wants a horse bow like you have.

Awesome job.
I have machined a fair share of G-10 over the years. Just thinking about it makes me itch.
It should be hefty and really stable. Congratulations.

Daniel, good to see you post my brother. Wow, you made that? I assume the limbs are Border?

Looks great.  I saw it over on tbh also.  I am still not sure what the short arrows are for, though.  Can someone explain?

Ahh, just saw the other thread with the video.

Some pics of another one I made out of "Paper Stone"

it is not as brutal on your tools, lighter that G-10, still heavy though ...
