"Armguard - Quiver" pics & video

Howdy Gang

I´d like to share a story about my   "Armguard - Quiver"  

About 2o years ago I was doing some horseback archery and did not like a back quiver nor a side quiver ... so I went and made something to fit my needs ....

It worked great and has been used extensively back then ...

  Many Years later ...  

While fumbling through a wooden box the other day .... filled with horse tackle ... old bridles, rusty bits .... I found a piece of leather which looked like an old armguard ....
and to my surprise it was something I have completely forgotten about ...

It must have been laying around in that box for approximately 12 years

It had mold all over the place ... smelling like sh#*
it looked like it has been done a hundred years ago ...
stiff like a coconut shell ...
I boiled it in melted bees wax if I remember correctly ...

here´s what it looks like after a good cleaning and some restitching ...

 

anyhow ...

I made me a new one and once more it became my favorite quiver for horseback archery

Great Video as usual Daniel.

Its obvious to me, your expertise with horse training just by the small interaction you had with them.  They respect you as their alpha.

The one thing I took from the video to find interesting was the use of the short arrows with the Bamboo slide. I've never seen that before..

The quiver idea is a good one.  I was thinking it would be a  poor choice for tree stand or blind hunting and also thought that initially for stalking due to worrying about movement of the fletching.  But the more i thought about it, I think the movement would be hidden by the body somewhat, making it Ideal.  Great Idea!

The cinematography and music were great!

The horses are loving the summer grass here too. I think mine is a good weight but the farrier says too fat.

Funny you posted this. I'd never heard of such a thing until a customer recently asked me to make an armguard that was also a quiver.
I never thought I'd ever hear of anything like it again, yet here you are.
Do you mind if I ask about how you made yours? How do you attach it and how do you keep it from sliding down your arm? Got any pics of it not on your arm?
I was pretty pleased with the one I made, but it required some hand fitting to the customer.

Nice video by the way. I've never seen someone shoot short arrows like that either.

Here´s some info

As for them "Baby Arrows" and Overdraw advice

The overdraw is made of bamboo and is called Tong - ah
The short arrows are called aekisal or pyeon jeon

It is a traditional Korean overdraw and is an ancient and historic weapon.
Although, some folks are still arguing about who invented it ...

The Tong - ah / Aekisal was considered a national secret and in war it was useful, as an enemy couldn't reuse the arrows

The arrow is nocked to the string and the index finger pushes the arrow inward against the tube …
The tube and arrow are drawn back; when the string is released, the string pushes the arrow down the tube's channel …


  Be warned here …

About using the tong - ah / aekisal …

it is something you have to get used to and be very careful of …

if you are just fooling around with it .... chances of having that baby arrow sticking out of your upper bow limb, or even worse, shooting into your bow hand / thumb, are pretty high !!!
