Endless loop on recurve?
« on: June 13, 2015, 11:06:00 PM »
I am curious to know how many of you guys and gals shoot endless loop strings on recurves? and how do YOU find them to compare to a Flemish on the same bow?

Thank you.

But its end is the way of death."  Proverbs 14:12

I shot them for many years . A few years ago I switched to Flemish because they are quieter and the loops are stronger .
Besides that they are a neat looking string .

I use endless loop strings on every bow except my Toelke Super D longbow ( it came with a Flemish String standard. ). The Flemish design is more durable however, the Endless loop system works great.

All I make and use. As quiet and strong as any flemish and can be made to a precise repeatable exact length with targeted number of twists.

I have several endless loop dacron strings on bows and they work quite nicely...recently I bought a Fox Maverick used that came with a low strand count endless loop low stretch material string...I have some fabulous Flemish strings and that one is the equal of any of them...build quality on a string is far more important than the type of string

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Daniel, I have been thinking there should be a push for endless strings! You know the saying, "What goes around, comes around".

I learned to make my first, 1984, the year I was married, and so began my string building career!

Built many more flemish, became popular, in time, "came around".      :bigsmyl:

I like endless for a Dacron string for older vintage recurves.Made an endless Angel Majesty for a Harrison HSS I had.Worked great and was quiet with a pair of cat whiskers. There was a test on youtube a guy shooting a Border Covert Hunter. He had an endless and Flemish twist BCY-X built by Chad "LBR" and shooting through a chrono and there wasn't a difference at all as far as speed.I just prefer a Flemish twist with low stretch string materials.I like the looks and haven't seen any big difference.

I make both but can make endless loop faster and to a more exact length.

I make and shoot both.

I think Flemish takes a little more practice to make well, and get the length right...especially if you deal with different materials, but once you get the hang of it one is as easy (or hard?) as the other.  Same for the time it takes to make them--not much difference for me.

My personal experience is endless can have a little more noise, especially on recurves--but there's a ton of variables besides endless or Flemish.

I've seen some crazy statements made about strings over the years...tempted to list them, but no need in stirring up stuff.  I'll just say none of them could verify what was said and leave it at that.  Point being, don't believe everything you read (remember that insurance commercial?  Bonjour!), especially when it comes to strings.

Properly made, either one will do the job just fine.  Just depends on your preferences...Ford, Dodge, Chevy; blondes, brunettes, redheads; longbow, recurve, selfbow;  etc. etc. etc.

Interesting. Both of my Toelke longbows came standard with endless strings.  I can't really tell the difference in shooting them, although I only know how to make Flemish strings.  I'm pretty picky with them, and if I make one that has too many or too few twists, that string goes on the wall to wait for some other bow it might fit.

I really never cared which I use. My real concerns are the material and the correct length. Only ever string I had break was a B50 Flemish, it broke in one of the end bundles. We never could figure out why it broke, not unravel.
