tab and glove question

I have always shot a finger tab built by vista and always have a problem of the nock rubbing my index finger raw and would like a little more protection. I tried a damascus but I can still feel the nock through the glove. I looked at the super archery mitt and the Big shot elk glove by american leather online. If you have tried either would you please insight me as to the goods and bad of each thanx so much, Travis

Big Shot I just bought my 2nd ons, best glove imo. I love the material covering the fingertips, some think it is too think dampening the string feel but it allows me to shoot longer and I think it gives me good string control, thjnner buckskin type gloves leave my fingers raw.

Travis... The Big Shot Glove is a great glove. I use them and love them.

The down side to them may be lack of feel of the string.
I feel the string just fine through my glove... all I need to feel.

Someone used to a tab might think it's totally insensitive. They are two different animals.

The Big Shot will protect the side of your finger. I'd suggest, however, addressing the real cause of the problem. More than likely your elbow is real high at full draw.

Make a slightly thicker spacer for your tab.

I have the same problem that you described. before I switched to the Big Shot, I thought of using a golf glove under the tab on my string hand,as I had good luck using an old Damascus glove in conjunction with the tab.

I like that Big Shot, but it seems pretty bulky after using the Damascus glove and then a tab. I really like the smooth release due to the material on the tips, but you may run out of room if you take a very deep hook.

If you really want to stick with a tab, the cordovan ones with a finger spacer work well.

I like getting rid of the brass knockset. Tie one on made of string. It works great and you can control the size. It keeps the brass knockset from rubbing your finger.

You can use #62 braid or dental floss to tie a "soft" nocking point.  I've been doing that for years.

I've had problems with my ring finger getting a callous on it.  I've minimized that problem by using a Damascus glove with my tab.

I agree with the las 2 responses, I tie my nock points on. Way less wear and pressure.  My problem with tabs is that they break down way to fast for me, I shoot almost every day for several hours and I go through a tab a month.

I have a big shot and it is nice, but I will probably try to sell it soon due to the lack of feel i get with it.  I like the Damascus and other gloves similar to it better.

is it large and how much you asking. I drove to Cody Wyoming today and tried out the big shot elk. I ended up with the large. I had really great flight and I like the feel it gives me. I also got to shoot a Horne hunter recurve. very nice!!!
Charlie, I did look in a mirror at full draw and my elbow was a little bit high so I dropped it down a little. With my tab that I regularly use it still rubbed my finger but I think it was because it is still sore. As soon as I strapped on the big shot no issue. The people who own the company are very friendly and helpful and instead of having me come directly to their shop she sent me to Sunlight Archery because they have the full line of gloves and an archery range to try them on. I was still welcome to come totheir shop if I wanted to.
I can see where someone who really likes the feel of the damascus may not like this glove. the extra thickness of the elk skin and nylon strap felt great to me. I did not have a bad release in about 40 to 50 shots. With my tab I have one or two whip in a set sometimes and always scratch my head. the neoprene was also nice as it put a little resistance against your curling of your fingers which I think helps with the release. I am not sure.
One question I have though is, I tried shooting three fingers under to see how it felt and I liked it but the bow got way noisier. I see that some companies recommend that you tell them if you want it tillered for three under. For bows that are not tillered that way is it hard on them or make them untunable? and also does it make it harder to shoot longer distances being you come closer to your eye with your arrow? not that I am looking to shoot long distance just curious. thanx guys.

Travis... Don't worry about hurting the bow while shooting 3 under. The noise is the bad part of shooting that way. You may need to raise your nocking point for that style and the arrow will cover the target when shooting past 25 yards or so.
