Well, I had complete catastrophic failure using a stinger yesterday. Man was I bummed. I had been in the stand for hours (first time in the stand this year), hadn't even seen a pesky squirrel. So just before dark I pack everything up, and as I begin to start climbing out of my stand, I see a nasty 'ole cottonmouth slithering towards my ladder. I caught him about 1 inch behind his head, and if it weren't for the tiniest piece of skin, would have been a perfect decapitation. (This had to be my best shot ever, instinctive aiming at it's finest!) The bad news though, is that my arrow penetrated about 3 inches into a gnarly old oak root. Talk about performance! I even easily pulled it from it's final resting place... minus any part of blade, and only half of the ferrule. I know it's no real test of penetration, but I was impressed to say the least. Thank heavens for their warranty.

No kidding, he was about 2 feet long. And that old wives tale about snakes striking after you've cut their heads off... it's completely true. This guy kept striking at me while I was looking for broadhead pieces. Not really striking, but bareing his fangs at me. Was pretty neat actually.

I seen one of the prototypes of that head do the same thing on a small havelenia.  Just buckeled right over.  Broadheads aren't indestructable but that is dissagpointing to say the least.  Good thing you got the snake. dino

He was coming for you. Probably had been watching you for a long time and decided he better make his move before legal time ran out.

Will they really warranty a head destroyed by a tree root?

Bonebuster... Mike Sohm will replace it for "ANY" reason.

Dino... not sure what's dissappointing. I think it did pretty good to penentrate that deeply into an oak root.

You killed the snake. The oak tree is a lot bigger so will take longer to bleed out. Like Charlie says, oak roots are tough!
