Adhesive for leather?
« on: October 10, 2007, 06:27:00 AM »
I wanted to put a piece of leather on my sight window/shelf, But dont want to use an actual GLUE. Anyone know what I can use to make the leather stick WELL but keep it from being PREMANANT and ruining the wood or clear coat?  I know 3R sells a piece of adhesive backed leather But ....I want to do it myself

I use contact cement and it will come off the bow, as least it always has when I've done it.  It leaves a residue similar to rubber cement.  I suppose the bow finish may make a difference.  I've only done this over Tru-Oil.

Barge glue/ cement works great.  It is a contact glue but you can put it on wet and then position the piece.  It will dry and can be removed with heat, very easily.

Glue the leather to a piece of duct tape or masking tape and then apply to the bow.

I use Charlie's tip of barge on gorilla tape... works simply awesome. Won't come off unless you want it too, easy to keep a spare tucked away in your pack, just in case.

Double sided carpet tape at your hardware store makes a superstrong clean looking backing. Or simpler yet use some barge cement.

I have used Fletch Tite, Duco, Barge Cement, and Contact Cement, with good results.  I wasn't as pleased with the Barge Cement as the others though.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

I use double sided tape. I have had a roll here for years, it lasts a long time.

Shoo Goo is the best I've used.  I've had some problems with Barge Glue.

well I just bought some Barge, I have shoe goo, and I got this other stuff called Quick grip.  The biggest thing for me is to be able to get it off when I want to with out it getting hard and possibly ruining the finish of the bow.  Thanks for all the responses, and keep them coming...

I use Barge on stuff I don't want to come off, and Elmer's rubber cement on stuff I may want to remove later.  Neither one has failed to come off or stay put, as the case may be.
