Hoyt Gamemaster - kill 2 birds with 1 bow?

My wife has recently expressed an interest to start killing hay bales with me and the boys so that she can participate in family fun time.
Since she wants me to buy a bow for her I was thinking about the Hoyt Gamemaster II if the limbs are interchangeable. In other words, is it possible to get a set of 40lb limbs for her and get a set of 50lb limbs for myself and just use the same riser.
One other question I forgot... can you put any Hoyt limbs on the Gamemaster riser or are there specific Hoyt limbs for it?

Yes-but be aware that the limbs are typically marked lighter than they actually are so you may want to have them scaled before you buy.

yeah I have 2 sets for mine and they are marked correctly, 45# and 55#. The bow is NOISY so get some limbsavers for it if you plan to hunt. and make sure once you have it set up that you write down all the measurements so that you can switch between limbs without getting messed up...

You can also get ILF limbs set-up for the GM with a bushing change.

40# seems like a lot of # for a lady to start off on. 25-30# might be better. Those Ragim bows on **** go for $60-$90 and make great starter bows for women and kids.

LOL. I did not know that the leading online auction site was now considered a curse word.

Thanks for the input. I should clarify that while I would order her the 40#@28" limbs, given that she is only 5'2" the actually poundage at her draw length would be considerably less. Or as Vermonster suggests, I can get the ILF limb set-up (I'll have to look into just exactly what that is) and get her lighter weight ILF limbs and order the bow with 50# limbs for me.
So far it sounds promising. With Christmas coming I could be shooting my ...err I mean my wifes new bow soon.

After having shot the bow in a couple of different configurations, the stock Hoyt limbs, unlike their limbs of old, are absolute dogs. I'd look for just a riser on *bay or ? then contact Dave Soza @ Das kenitics to get his adapter kit for ILF limbs and limbs themselves. You won't spend that much more and you will really have an excellent performing bow...

My GM is more quiet than most of my wood bows, but you will need the limb pads from DAS. Lancaster Archery also has Samick limbs that will fit the GM for about $250. Not sure what the Das limbs are going for.

bearhair have you let her try to draw a 40#@28" inch bow?
My experience with women(we wont go into that one, Lets just say I have a lot. lol) shows that most can not start out on a bow that heavy. My current GF is not much taller than your wife and had a very difficult time with a 35# @28" bow. She draws 25-26". A 28#@28" bow worked much better for her and now she is up to 32# and will probably be ready for 35# soon.

FWIW
My wife is 5'2". I started her with a 35@28 longbow. After a year she was ready for more. She now shoots a recurve that is 32# @ her 23" draw.

My wife is currently using my 52@28 recirve but struggles after about 10 shots.
I guess I'm not completely sold on the GM but I do like the idea of a being able to interchange ILF limbs so I can get a light set for her and a heavier set for me. And since this is a gift for my wife, I would really like to get her something shiny and new and the GM is in my price range.
I'm open to any other suggestions that might fit my situation.

Nope. She still uses it but you know women, always on the look out for something shiny and new
. Seriously, I think she is at the stage, that we all probably went through at one time or another, where she has the basics down but thinks there is a magical bow out there that will make her shoot like Robin Hood.
My brothers boy has really taken to recurves so we may pass the 76'er on to a fine young boy this Christmas in hopes he can join us in the woods for next years deer season.

I think it would be a good idea but just remember that although you'll both be able to shoot a bow, you wont be able to shoot them at the same time.

You might take a look at the Kap t-rex or Winstar2 if she likes the metal bows like the gamemaster. She could even pick out a girly color if she is not into hunting.
