Yesterday I bought a Dan Quillian bamboo backed longbow, 59#/68" long. Just wondering if anyone has an info on these bows that may help me. Specifically I would like to know if a fast flight string can be used and what would the recommended brace height be. Right now it braces at 6-5/8" and shoots great and is very quiet so I wouldn't change that much. Yesterday I made a B50 Flemish twist string for it to be safe but have not shot it with the new string yet.

I have had 2 Bamboo Longhunters and really liked them. One was 58#/68" and shot 2117 arrows with 125 points beautifully. I did not use FF strings. I can't remember if Dan told me not to use FF or I just continued to use Dacron because that is what came on the bow originally. I do not recall the exact brace height I used, but it was fairly low. If you decide to get rid of it please contact me! It is that bow I'm still kicking myself for trading off.
My second bow was 78#/68" Bamboo Longhunter. I still have it, but old guys don't do well with bows that heavy. It shoots a telephone pole with authority!
I think the Longhunter was great bow that deserves a lot more acclaim than it receives.

Thanks for the info Sam. I am shooting GT Traditionals full length with a 150gr Magnus Stinger and a 50gr insert weight with it at 555gr total weight. These are my arrows for my recurve but this bow shoots them as well or better bare shaft and fletched. I will stick with Dacron since that is the only string making material I currently have and it's worked well on my other 2 bows so far.
Would you consider 6-5/8' brace "fairly low"? I am fairly new to trad bows so I still have a ton to learn.
I will probably never get rid of it, it will be passed down to my son along with all of my other bows but if by chance I do I will keep you in mind.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with the exact brace height. When you hit that sweet spot where arrow performance and quietness meet, you are there, whatever the measurement is. If the 6-5/8" performs like you want it to, then leave it there. Brace height is so easy to adjust, try numerous settings and stick with what works best. There were multiple settings at which my bow shot well - it was not picky.

Ok thanks. I made a new string for it yesterday so I will play around with it some while getting it shot in to see what it likes.

Ok since I bought this bow on July 10th one bundle of the original string that it came with got cut on the lower limb in the nock groove. The guy I bought it from said he only shot that string maybe 300 times and it was purchased from a local bow shop. I put the string that I made on it and at about 800 or so shots I noticed the same problem on the upper string loop. One of the bundles was cut. I have checked both nock grooves and did not see any sharp edges on either. I sanded the lower nock groove with fine grit sand paper before replacing the string. So now this has happened on both nock grooves but on both strings the opposite string loop shows no wear. If there was a sharp edge on each the upper string loop should have shown some wear on the original string. Anyone have a clue at to what may be going on here?
