I got my bear permit for the UP in September, or I'd be seriously interested! How about next year?
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

Is this an over-the-counter tag? Guess it would have to be if it's for this Sept. Too late to apply for one. Is it a DIY hunt?

Right up my alley except I drew an archery tag this fall for Iowa. Maybe this opportunity will come again, fingers crossed. Best of luck to you, I will keep an eye out on here for the camp fire stories and pics of your successful hunt.

This is an over the counter tag, DIY, and on federal land. total cost for the hunt runs between 1500. - 2000.

Over the counter tags are available down there? Parts of the Gunnison gets deep and rough.  Do you put a retainer down for packing out game or are you staying close enough to the roads to pack out the elk on your own?

Have always been able to do our own packing, either manpower or horse power.

Sweet, great area for sure. If you make it a little further south I'm running the bow shop in a sporting goods store outside Durango. Decent little crowd of trad guys down here.

Guys, this sounds like a good opportunity to hunt with someone that knows his stuff.  I am rifle hunting near there in Oct or I would seriously consider this.   Just remember, a hunt on public land is a hunt on public land and it is nothing like the TV shows.

The town of Gunnison is a great little town.   I remember a few years ago that one of the local sporting goods stores was holding a raffle for a 270 rifle to raise money for the high school sports teams.  It has been my experience that the local businesses love to have hunters ( and the money they bring in).   If you have never been out West, this would be a good opportunity.   PS  Get in shape,  high altitudes and mountain slopes rob your brains and legs of all ambition.

If my wife and I didn't just have a baby I would be taking you up on this. I've hunted that area and it's great! Good luck!!!

What a fantastic opportunity you're offering!  I'll be chasing elk somewhere in 2016, I just don't the vacation time to make it work this year.
