I've adopted a new method for tree climbing.  I'm a pretty diehard tree hunter, but this should make inning and hanging stands much easier.

I am not buying a landowner tag. I want to get out and hit some of the public hunting areas and neighbors land. Broaden my horizons this year, also hunt some from the ground too.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Get to my stand a lot earlier.

Im going to get aggressive very early with stand locations. Im hunting highly pressured public land. If i don't close the deal within the first couple weeks they go very nocturnal from the  pressure and baiting. I am also doing a lot more broadhead practice leading up to the season.

I'm going to move more and go to the deer if I see them not using the trails etc. That I have them patterned to. Also I'm not going to be so darn picky I'm all about QDM and a healthy deer herd but I also want to have fun.  Plus I'm tired of raiding my father inlaws freezer this off season for his elk meat.
Take a deep breath and pick a spot

Keying in on this acorn flat that I hunted last year.  I hunted it lightly last season and shot 1 deer off of it.  Saw a whole bunch more.  I am going to try and shoot a buck early season there.  I saw several!

I am going to lower my standards this season.  I passed some really great deer last year and I ended up kicking myself for it.  Upside is they will be bigger this year.  Last year I told myself I would shoot 5 deer.  Could've shot 5 no problem, but I ended up only shooting 2 and letting many walk on by.

I am also hunting with a little less poundage than normal.  Last season when I was hunting near 0 degree temps drawing my bow was a chore.  I dropped 5lbs in bow weight.  I feel confident that when it gets REALLY COLD late season I will have no problem drawing my bow comfortably and effectively.

Hunting Muledeer! Didn't draw a tag for first choice and drew a late season doe tag for a muledeer unit.

Use a set of MO Landowner tags for the first time in my life.  Earlier this year, went in with my father, brother and uncle to purchase 92 acres adjacent to the 100 acres the family already has.  It'll be tough to hunt the new land because the original farm has a dozen honey holes!  Gotta start somewhere though...we all know the original property like the backs of our eyelids...time to do the same with the new chunk.

Hunting with a longbow for the first time.  Sold the compound in November and have been shooting 2-3 times a week building up my consistency and confidence.  Leaning towards keeping my feet on the ground and limiting myself to shots below 15 yards.  Also looking to take advantage of public land opportunities. Cannot wait for October

Hunting from my wall tent. Should make things more laid back on my western NY hunts. And I'm gonna focus on urban deer more than years past.

I'm going to scout more and hunt more.  The last couple seasons I've been side tracked by "other" things.
