Hunting Bike

A buddy made me a deal on a mountain bike. Figured I'd get a couple years out of it before upgrading.

For those of you currently biking into location:
What are you using for a light while riding at night?
And what are you using to carry your bow?

Either a head lamp or they make lights that clamp on to your handle bars. Either one should work well.

I wear a a head light and use a bar mount rechargeable.  You can find a lot of stuff at competitive cyclist .com  To carry the bow I have a set of big rubber coated u clamps that mount on the handlebars.  Think inverted horseshoe.  Loop rubber bands over the top to keep bow in.  I bought these years ago at a sporting goods store but have not seen anything since.. check out the fat tire bikes made by cogburn.

When it comes to the best way to carry your bow on a bike, I would have to say "bowtote". They are fantastic for carrying your traditional bow on a bike or a horse. A bowtote has 1000's of uses. My hunting rig. I use velcro straps at three points. Then a mini cat on my pack for arrows.

 
 
I have both a head lamp and if needed rechargeable handle bar light, with battery that goes in bottle rack.

I use a head lamp and a handle bar light. For my bow I use the U shaped holders mounted on my handle bars. Same kind of U shaped holders that are used on ORV's, I got mine at a sporting goods store and they work great.

It's best to have the two lights so you can scan with your head lamp and keep the handle bar light focused on the road, coming back in pitch dark you want to be able to see the road well.

Thanks guys. Just added a rear rack today. I'll look into the U brackets as it would be nice to carry the strung, ready-to-hunt bow

If you carried it strung, then you might be accused of being a Road Hunter      I know I can carry my longbow or recurve strung with those 4 wheeler handlebar U holders.  But you take a chance of hitting something sharp & cutting your string.

Not bad for $40. It's not a high end bike but figure it'll get me through a year or two until I can decide if I want to spend the money on a nicer one.

Will mainly be riding ranch roads and rock paths.

If your going to be riding where cactus and thorns grow you might want to invest in slime tubes and be sure to carry tire repair items or extra tube and a bike multi tool.

The handle bar mount style bow ATV racks can be a challenge when you are on tight trails.    
If you are riding open jeep roads, etc they work.

Wish I could make my photobucket work. My son has used one of those two wheel carts for transporting kids to haul in our gear the last two elk hunting trips.  It worked well, but he is a Colorado resident now, and rides a lot. Just straps his 64" recurve to a bar and it rides straight up and down so less chance to catch on corners.
