Big Jims Thunderchild.. .INFATUATION.....
« on: July 26, 2015, 06:36:00 PM »
I've been looking at bows and looking at bows and looking at bows.....I'm not sure there's a bow out there that I haven't looked at ONLINE.  I confess I haven't handled very many in person.

I gotta say...even though I haven't had one in hand I am in love with the Big Jim Thunderchild.  Something about the way it looks....the name....I dunno but I will own one soon.

I don't even know why.  I currently own a 1966 Bear Kodiak Mag and a Black Widow Short Ironwood.  LOVE shooting both of them in particular the Widow but I gotta stop the itch and get my hands on a Thunderchild.

Those of you who have shot my current bows and the Thunderchild .....what can I expect????

Don't get to looking at this one then.  Man it's a pretty bow isn't it?  It's not mine but I wouldn't mind it being mine.

Archer66,

I have one for sale right now. I am only selling it bc I bought me a new one!  ;)

To say I'm impressed with the bow is an understatement. It's 58" and shoots just as good as my 67" longbow I shoot competitions with. It shoots an arrow with authority. Very quiet. Little to no hand shock. I am a big take down now guy and after carrying this 20 oz bow around, I'm not sure I want to shoot my 4 lb take downs anymore. Lol.

This will be my "go to" bow for this upcoming season. The one I currently have is a 1 piece and the 1 on its way is a 2 piece. I just wanted the option to take it down.

I don't think you'll find many cons to these bows, IMO.

I just shot Big Jim's sons Thunderchid (46# @ 28) at Denton Hill this weekend.  Very nice shooting bow and points as well as his Buffalo.  I don't find any of Big Jim's bows to be fast but they hit where you look as well as any longbow I have shot.  If I ever run across one at a good deal it will be added to my stable.

I have not found a bow I like better at the moment.  The grip will be different from your recurves but Jim is easy enough to work with.  Just give him a message, he will be able to answer all your questions.

Normally I switch bows weekly but have been shooting this one exclusively since may.

The Thunderchild is my favorite of all bows. They are very accurate without hand shock. They have a very smooth draw. They shoot pretty hard. And are very much peices of art. I talked to Jim at the World last weekend and he said my new 54" TC is almost ready for the spray booth.

Daniel, be sure and post some pics of your new Thunderchild when you get it.

Tracker, Tommy's bow is very beautiful. How did you like the thumb locator on it. My new one is gonna have it. I saw Tommy's at the Tennessee Classic earlier this year.

I've owned three or four of them and they are both eye candy and great shooters. The only issue for me is that the grip seems to be "beefier" than I prefer but if I ever bought a new one I am sure Jim could accommodate my preference for a thinner grip.

thats another reason why i am selling the one I currently have.  The grip is too skinny for me.  The new one is a t/d so it will have to have a little fatter grip.  Though I did play around with fattening this one up and it came out perfect.. lol.  It is literally exactly how I like them right now.. oh well.

The new one has all the "bells and whistles".  t/d , leather grip, black and white ebony veneers, gems buck tip over lays and on teh back of the riser.. man, i'm getting pumped thinking about it..

someone needs to buy mine and try it out!  :)

I have 2 and they are verry nice shooters and even nicer on the eyes both are 56" 2pc one is 65# and the other is 85#  i find the 85# one i can shoot better as the grip is a little slimmer but they are both in my regular shooting pile sorry i cant post
Cheers Jim

A few pictures of mine just to fan the fire. Super smooth draw and throws a 600 grain arrow with authority.

Hi Daniel....I saw your listing and drooled a bit over it...actually considered making you an offer but I've got a pretty short draw length...25.5 inches and your bow would be lighter than what I want at that length.

All....beautiful bows.....love the kill pics too!!  Keep em coming.
