Thermal imaging to track wounded game
« on: July 30, 2015, 09:44:00 AM »
Hi would like to get some thoughts or feedback if any one has tried this. Some thermal imaging claims that it can see as far at 800 yards.......

Thanks in advance    :)

Can't use it in my state (Indiana). It is a sick bird here. (Ill- Eagle)

My wire haired dachshund can't see that far, but with his nose he doesn't have to.

He also warms my feet on a cold night and acts happy to see me when I come home   :)

A good UV light will make blood fluoresce in the dark.  That is about $30.  A good thermal cam runs about $8000 plus last time I checked.

Mount it onto a drone and you can search for it from your couch !  (teasing).

There is a fine line somewhere.  We each have our own location for it.

I had one back in the late 90's and unless they have drastically improved since then they are utterly useless.

I'm sure the ones they mount on an AH-64 Apache would do the trick, but they likely cost more than most of our houses.

If you do have one to find wounded game great, but what stops someone from using it to hunt game

A good UV light and a small spray bottle of peroxide work wonders on finding blood trails especially at low light levels.
