Bamboo backed hickory sandwich
«

I started building an all bamboo bow using bamboo backing and vertical bamboo flooring but have had trouble bending them into the reflex/deflex that I want. With this being said I have been thinking of putting a thin strip of hickory in between the bamboo backing and bamboo belly, thinning the belly first of course. Doing this I hope to keep the poundage up while still being able to glue the laminates up into my reflex deflex form. Has anyone done this before and if you have did it workout? I am using urac 185 for glue up.

One other thing...does the hickory have to be perfectly straight grain hickory? I have alot of it but it is not straight grain stuff...I am going to thin it out pretty good. Probably down to 3/16ths of an inch

I've never done it before, but would think that it would work as you describe. I know my tri lams hold almost all the r/d I put into it off the form. The hickory need not be straight grained for the middle lam. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck, Matt

Here is the bow all glued up and roughly shaped. I am having a hard time getting it on a short string. I can't seem to get the profile right. I'll get some pics of it

Bow looks good, but that picture sure cracks me up! Your little princess makes a pretty good bow bench when you add a door knob to her!
A real cutie there!
