BH for squirrels
« on: August 13, 2015, 02:29:00 PM »
I have a few expandable BH's laying around from my wheelie days.  Would these serve as a good BH for squirrels?  Just thought I'd ask before I gave them away.

I would give them away if it were me but then again, I don't know anyone who uses them as I do not know any wheel people personally.
What gives me wings? Flying with my arrows over and over again. And never giving up...For giving up means not believing...

They would work, however they may notlast long.
Id stick to good point like (Small Game Thumper, 3R Hammer, G5 SGH, Red Feather talon,) to name a few.
If I was using broadheads Id use a 3 blade (woodsman or snuffer) and maybe dull the point
I was a at a farm store and saw a small 3 blade (like a mini snuffer) I thought that would be a great head for small game.
What ever you choose, think about how your get the squirrel off the arrow. Screw in heads are no problem, but getting a glue on out is harder.

Thanks, makes a lot of sense.  I'll just give them away and get a good small game head.

Thanks for the link Jakeemt. That was the best article on squirrel hunting I've ever read!

To underscore a point many have made, including the article. Back around 1984 or so I was in WY bowhunting mules with my little brother. We were walking back to camp and there were 3-4 mule deer in a small pasture next to semi-abandoned homestead. Big cottonwood trees surrounded the pasture.

Were about 500 yards or so away. I suggested my brother a stalk on the deer to see if he could get in bow range. He just gave me a blank stare? So I told him to wait there and I would try.   Long story short, I used the cottonwoods for cover and stalked within bow range. I killed the closest doe.

My brother asked where I "learned" to do that. It was my turn to give him the blank stare, as I thought about it. Then I realized, I "learned" how to it in my teens while squirrel hunting.
