Goldtip Trad Hunters Arrow 500 & 400 spine
« on: August 14, 2015, 07:12:00 AM »
Hi,
I have bought 500 spine of carbon arrow by Goldtip Trad Hunter. The sales rep recommended 500 so I bought it online.
When I got the item I saw that the instruction on the box says I should use 400 spine. 45lbs @ 29"
I called the store and told them this and he still recommends 500 and try different weight of heads, but willing to do the exchange.
What do you guys suggest?

Sorry if I am posting this on wrong section of the forum. I only found classified for arrows...

I think 500 is a better choice than the 400's personally.  Some more information about your bow (recurve, longbow, how much centershot, etc) would help answer.  I don't have a 29" draw length, but I use 600 spine @ 45#.

He is correct 500 spine is what you need. Depending on the bow you could shoot anywhere from 145gr - 200gr tip weight.
I use a Hybrid longbow 45#@28" I pull 29.5 and am using 175-200gr. full length shaft.
If you use 400spine shaft you will need alot more weight up front.

No stiffer than the 500's. Infact, depending on the bow, you may even do better with 600's ...all about the bow...well and you.
Hopefully you didn't have him cut the shafts as they will almost certainly be too stiff.

I'm shooting a 54@27 HHA longbow, and it shoots the 500's perfect. I think you'll be just fine.

That chart you see on the package may very well be for compound bows.

I shoot 400's in my 57lb and 500's in my 45lb bow. The 500's are the correct arrow for your bow. In fact if you cut a couple inches off them and shoot a 100 to 125 Grain head they could be too stiff.

Thank you so very much!
Now I can feel better about opening the box!
I have Samick Sage, recurve, with fastflight string.
This is my first bow and I was hopping to get a decent arrow so I can just focus on my skill rather than wondering i f bought something wrong.
Thanks so's much again!
Any advice is appreciated since I don't even know what to ask.

Btw the chart was for recurve.
And the store did not cut the shaft.
I guess that was a good thing.

Yep the one exception I would make is for bows that are cut well past center. For example black widow bows. the require a higher spine for sure.
