Ray I used it for 3 years or so but only for marking waypoints. I have recently been trying Gaia app like it better you can down load an area save it to your phone and use it off the cells GPS.

I tried Trimble all last season and did not like it. I went back to my compass and old Garmin GPS...
I sure would like to have something that works well on my cell phone, so I will be keeping an eye on this thread.
Ray, I hope you are doing well, my friend.

Ray:
Its actually "Scout Look Weather" and it is an android app. I went with the $1.99 version from the app store(fewer ads) and could not be happier. I ran a post here last year looking for recommendations. This app is simple to use and does anything I want it to do. Weather, scent cone, stand location, terrain, google earth, etc. Used mine just this morning to check weather and wind direction where I hunt, approximately 130 miles from my home. Be heading that way tomorrow AM for a little preseason scouting with "Ric O'Shay". Good luck and shoot straight.

I have been playing with Back Country Navigator for about six months and it has worked out well for me. It also allows downloading selected areas for off line use. Can't compare it to the others mentioned here because I've not used them.

I use the LOCUS FREE app and really like it. I downloaded a satellite image of my hunting area in a Colorado wilderness area to my smartphone and use that map in my Locus Free app. It pinpoints my location perfectly using the GPS on my phone. I have my phone in "airplane mode" to keep the battery from getting depleted.
I'm waiting for delivery of a new gadget called GoTenna that will pair up with my smart phone via bluetooth. It's a teeny battery powered antenna that allows you to send/receive text messages to another GoTenna. It works without cell phone service. My son, son-in-law and I will use them this fall for elk hunting. The GoTenna will also pinpoint the other GoTenna users on my satellite map. Great way to keep in contact with your hunting buddies and to let them know that you've got an elk down via text messages. They'll know exactly where you are located to come help. Hopefully we'll receive them in time for our big bowhunting trip.

I'm learning the GAIA app (i am new to smart phones) and so far, I am liking it. I don't think it will replace my Garmin, but it is pretty cool.

Hi Ray, Kris from Trimble Outdoors. We'd be happy to answer any questions you (or anyone here) have about our app. A good starting point is our Learn Center:
http://support.trimbleoutdoors.com/knowledgebase
In here, you'll learn how to save offline maps, view public and private lands, save battery power, and much more.
We'd also be happy to answer any questions you have over the phone. Feel free to email me if you want to schedule a call with a support person. Thanks. -kris

Hey Ray
I use Trimble apps on the iPhone and have no real issues. I pretty much just mark spots on the map and don't use the tracking because I forget to turn it off. It tracked me to the Paradise from home last trip! Call me

I have it on my phone and it is a pain in the a$$ to put maps on it. After all the time and energy I put into this app when I tried it out west it would not work at all. I am glade I had my GPS I paid for my app and if I was you I would not waist my money or time. Widow
