Hello from a Newb
« on: August 16, 2015, 06:29:00 PM »
Greetings Trad Gang! I'm not only a newbie to the forum but to traditional archery and stickbows.

35 or so years ago I first tried archery in the backyard with my dad and later I spent time on the archery range with the Boy Scouts summer camp. We were using production fiberglass (I think?) bows and wooden arrows of the cheapest kind. I really enjoyed it, but no one in my family was really an archer and all the hunting was done with firearms.

So, fast forward to now. I have been visiting the local archery pro shop for about ten years for compound bow needs and every season I pause and admire the beauty of the recurves and longbows. I think I really have the bug now and I have many questions.

So far I have read the New to Traditional Archery paper (great amount of info!) and I have narrowed my choices down to several recurves over the past couple weeks. So, I will keep reading and searching the forum and I hope this is the right section to post additional questions about bows and tack for traditional bowhunting.

welcome aboard, I put down the wheelbow completely 2 years ago after going between the two styles.
Practice and practice. and ask all the questions you can. No reason to struggle through it all alone when others have some knowledge they can impart.
just be ready for the addiction, more bows to buy more arrows to tune and more broadhead to sharpen.
"There's only two things an arrow wants to do, it wants to fly and it wants to hit its target. It's in its very nature. Don't over think it."

Welcome to the party!  It is an absolutely amazing way to hunt. I switched from compounds (got rid of my training wheels) two years ago, and I had no idea archery could be so fun.
