Silvertip magic. Could've been worse.
« on: August 17, 2015, 09:42:00 PM »
I got home from work in time to clean up some dirty arrows and take a few shots.  Shot a few rounds from 50 yards, then moved up to 40.  First shot was not too good, maybe 7 or 8 inches wide right(for all of you Buffalo Bills fans).  On the next shot, the bow jumped out of my hand at the release and fell near my feet.  I looked down, and this is what I saw.

String broke at the serving for he nocking point, which was tied on.  No worries.  Probably have nearly 10,000 shots on that string, lol.

Couldn't see any visible damage on the bow, but will find out more later this week.  Figured that arrow was in the next county somewhere, so I walked up to the target to get my other arrow.  Pretty surprised to see this.  I will take that shot at 40 yards any day.

I guess all that is left is to give A.S. a call, lol.

It is incredible the forces on a bowstring at the shot, many times the bows weight, hence the need for strong fibers.  So glad you're ok Pat and the bow is in one piece.  Sounds like its prolly just fine.  Time to retire that string though.

Same EXACT thing happened to me this spring. I was also very surprised to see my arrow go to spot i was aiming for.

Scary stuff!  Glad you are good ...and glad the bow survived too!  I saw a guy get a serious laceration across his face during an indoor league shoot when his string broke when settling in at full draw.  Glad this was a much less painful outcome.

:scared:     :scared:    :scared:    :scared:  Dang Pat, glad you and the bow are ok, that is the main reason I change the string on my bows at least once a year if they need it or not. Would hate for that to happen to one of my bows.

Never had a string break, but I did have a limb pocket blow out at full draw one time. Smacked me a good one on top of the head.

Glad your bow is ok. Never had a string break. I did have an early Asbel Bighorn come apart at full draw. The top limb smacked me in the side of my face, and the bottom limb hit me in the...well you know.

Glad everything worked out. I have had everything break at one time or another-just lucky I guess!    :bigsmyl:
