Carbon arrow spine selection. Help

Hi ,

Using Bob Lee Ultimate 51 @ 28", center shot centered. I am 27.5 ". Using 300- 315 gr (EFOC beleiver) broadheads and need the arrow to be at least 29"  for my broadhead not to touch the riser. What arrow spine would every one here suggest me to start trying. Dynamic spine selector suggests a 300 spine but I think it would be overspined, should I start with 340? 400? Anyone using similar setup?

I have a great northern recurve 51#@ 28. I'm 27". I shoot the 3555 gold tip trads. cut to 29". however I only have a 50gr brass insert and a 150 gr heAd. for a total of 200 gr up front. they tuned well bare shafts. hope this helps.

Carbon arrows are stiff at full length. When you cut them down to 29" they become very stiff. You will weaken the spine with those heavy heads but you still might be able to go with 400's. You can get a spine kit and cut the arrows to your length and see what works best.

Im no expert  but hog setup shooting out of my dryad. It's 54 @28 and I draw to 25" which roughly 46lbs. My arrows are 340 victory vh cut to 29 1/2 with 100gr insert and 250gr broadhead.  So total 563 gr 30.2% foc. So maybe to 300 would work for you. If I got it figured right.

What ever shaft you decide on.  Dont cut it down until you know for sure how it shoots. That way if its to stiff you can add more weight or cut some shaft off a little at a time.

Try Victory's HV 350. They are the lightest gpi arrow that I have found. 6.8 Gpi 350 spine. Make a Great EFOC arrow.

I use .340,.350,30" length,300 gr point and 100 gr brass insert with bows that weight and that makes a 700 gr arrow.I think .300 is going to be way too stiff.If you want less arrow weight than that,you could try .400's but might have to get them as close to your draw length as possible.I would try to buy a couple of each and experiment.

my thoughts on carbons are-

Get the stiffest one they make, in the variety you like, and load up the front end with enough weight to make it fly right.

Do not cut the shaft - leave it full length.

I use 31.5 gt kenetics 300 spine. Standard insert with a 300gr field point/ broad head 3 4in fleyxh with a 5 inch wrap. Out of a 65lb longbow. They fly great but it is not center shot.
My 80lb needs 31,5 easton axis 260s with 75gr inserts 300gr point weight 5in 3 Fletch no wraps.
Both have 1" footers.
The axis shoot great out of my center shot Hoyt buffalo as well.
May want to get some singles and test them all before you invest in a few dz.
300s should work though...test kits.

Thank you very much! great information. I like the idea of starting full length, I am thinking in doing that with  300 full length. If it is still stiff, then change to 340.
