This is my Doug Campbell knife. Doug just told me to wash any blood off of it and not let the blood sit on the blade.

I have been told,by a knife maker, that damascus is actually more resistant to rust due to the process of making the steel.  He said he wasn't sure of why, just said they didn't rust as fast as high carbon knives.  How do the rest of you feel about that?  True, False?

After the hunt, I wash it, sharpen it, then coat with vaseline.

Is it too late to be what I could have been?

Howdy Drew, Ironically I just got into work this afternoon after spending the morning at the forge of an outstanding bladesmith.  This guy is a master in every sense of the word.  His work makes my hair stand on end when I heft it.  If you are looking for Damascus, he is the man to talk to (he's forgotten more than I'll ever learn).  On top of it all he's a great guy to boot,  He'd give you the shirt off of his back.  I'll send pics when I get mine finished.  If you (or anyone else for that matter)would like to see some amazing stuff, feel free to PM me for his website address.

Good luck in the search, and take care.

higher the carbon in the lbade the more likely it is to rust.  Dont know why, but I do know it's true

Toe, why not post it for all to see?  Afterall a good quality knife is as much a part of a traditional bowhunters arsenal is a stick and string!

I'll be all too happy to post pics of mine when it's finished (truth be told,I'll probably just walk down the street showing strangers till they lock me up!!). Not sure if you were talking about my knife or the link to my friends site but I didn't think I could post a link to a non-sponsor site.  Not sure which one you meant.
Take care

Car Wax...I just rinse & dry my high carbon blades off.  When I get home a light coat of car wax...Mothers Carnauba Cleaner Wax will also remove light oxidation.  I figure if it's good enough for Master Bladesmith Ed Caffrey, then I won't search for a better mouse trap...Doc
