Hunting,,maybe not.......update
« on: September 18, 2015, 10:14:00 AM »
Well I got the word Thursday that I have to go back in the hospital for a manual manipulation of my knee. The replacement is good but I'm not responding to the PT. So on 9/30 I get it bent and start rehab all over again. This may put my hunting season on the back burner, I hope not but we shall see.

Hey Ron,

That's tough news.  Hopefully the treatment goes well.  It's a long season so hopefully you can get out there while the weather is still decent. Hang in there...

Get yourself better before you worry about the season.  That is important.

Got any place where you can hobble maybe 50 - 100 yards and sit that has even a chance of a deer walking by ?  That might get you thru.

They will get you straightened out Ron, hang in there. Like ronp said its a long season. Most of the time when I get back to my jeep after a morning sit the deer are hanging around it. So you might want to try parking and just sitting in a lawn chair with a cup of coffee outside of your vehicle.       I hope that you have a quick recovery buddy.

I know how you feel. I lost a whole season due to a bad hip. Hopefully you can catch a late season hunt.

Shame you're not in N La.  My family has a lease that we hunt.  We don't use them too much once season starts other than to haul deer out, but we have ATV trails all over it, and a lot of them I can get my truck down if I need to.  I could put up a couple brush blinds and drop you off 15 yards away.  It is a little warm up until just before Thanksgiving though.

Ron, Maybe you can hunt close to a dirt road with a good chair and just sit, some of my best deer have been taken within spitting distance of a road. Just being in the woods will help the knee...

That complication you developed after surgery, sure put the kibosh on your recovery.

Nice to know that they have a way to fix the problem that doesn't involve more surgery! That would really suck out loud in stereo!

I've still not fully committed to doing my replacement... something is nagging at me and I think it is all the back issues.  Medical care isn't quite the same here as where I was before, so I'm hesitant to be compromised and then after a torturous rehab, find out the back is crap!

I get to travel 3 hrs west to a young friend's on 9/30 and hunt few days that week... I'll be sending up prayers for you as I travel and hunt!

Hey Ron-
I can always load you into Jeff's deer cart, and wheel you in and out. Those hills might be a bit hairy, but.....    :goldtooth:

I realize every joint replacement is different, but I find it encouraging that they don't have to go back in. You may have had it tougher than some of us, but I think you will find it well worth the trouble in the end. I think I could have made it little way back into the woods on crutches if I'd had the job just before season. Get a buddy to lug a chair out there and just enjoy the woods time. Who knows? That perfect shot could happen right in front of you. Hope so anyway.
