Tarsal or metatarsal

I tried using some tarsal glands I cut off a deer one time. I just tied them on my pack while hiking. I sat down for a rest and a drink. I heard a noise and turned around. There was a small buck walking up to me. Downwind. I have never had that happen before. That happened a few years ago. I haven't had another deer tag since then. Have you tried this? How did it work out? Gary

I've used tarsal glands as a drag before and had deer follow my trail. Be sure they are fresh though or they'll have the opposite effect.

My cousin freezes them from one year and uses them the next. I've had deer follow a scent path made with the old Indian buck lure (Pete Rickards).
I've also had deer spook from some "lure scents".

A friend after tying tarsel glands to his boots had just settled into his tree stand when he noticed a large Grizzly following his exact trail to his stand . The bear stood up and raked the tree while looking at him then backed off ten yards and sat down all the tme stareing at him .
Fortunatly a short time later the Jake Brakeing of a logging truck on a newby road spooked the bear and a mad dash for his truck followed . LOL
Cheers

Further to this the hunter in question was at the time a member of a RCMP swat team . Inspite of being quite alarmed he refused to shoot the bear as he didn`t anythng on his personnal doc`s that might not help with career promotions .
I had no problem getting tarsel glands from him after that .
And No , I do not tie them any where on my gear .
Cheers from the Country that has everything except the Stanley Cup ...

Work best if you can get some from a buck from a completely different area, dominance and curiosity thing.

An old man told me many years ago to take fresh Tarsal glands, place them in a jar and cover them with Glyserine. Let it set for several weeks (normally the next year). The Glyserine will turn a putrid green but he said it was the best buck lure you can use.
