One of those mornings. (redemption) Evening was good!
« on: September 19, 2015, 01:45:00 PM »
Well today I missed.  I missed an 18 yard shot at what would've been my biggest buck ever.  I dont have any excuses other than I shot just under him.  Feeling pretty bummed but I know its part of hunting and I'm glad it was a clean miss and I did not wound him.

Really takes a chop at your confidence when you miss      :(

Then after I got down, I went and got my arrow and was cleaning the dirt off the broadhead when I hear a twig break and 2 does work in behind me.  well now they are downwind but I duck behind a blowdown and nock another arrow.  I come to full draw and I am just waiting for her to take one more step for me to clearly see the vitals.  What does she do?  Turns and walks dead away from me.  I snuck out, went back to the truck and left.

Just one of those mornings!

I'll take a lesson learned on a clean miss over a wounded animal any day. Stick with it! Sounds like you have plenty of deer to work with!

I know that missing a good buck is like a kick in the gut. However, keep you head up and stay after them! It just may be that the miss will help you focus even more when that giant buck of your dreams steps out in early November.

Second best shot you can make! Think of it as "catch and release".

Now take one for the freezer.

Keep your chin up.... and keep after them. We all jack up a shot every now and then.  Hopefully you'll get another go at him!

That is a beautiful trophy 9 Shocks! Congratulations. Persistence does pay off. Who knows, maybe you will have another crack at that buck as well.    :archer2:

Also,  this was the first deer Ive shot with an aluminum arrow.  Not that I ever doubted them before, but it really walloped her.  Total arrow weight was around 540 grains coming from a 46# bow.  She didnt know what hit her!

I find that when that happens to me it provides incentive to practice more. The years when I practiced a bunch I never had the slightest problem with accuracy.
