My first whitetail
« on: October 13, 2007, 02:58:00 PM »
Well, I've been trying to stick one of these for quite some time.  This morning, I finally got this doe.

Interestingly, she died right next to what turns out to be the first rub I've seen this year (over my shoulder in the pic).

The bow is a 55# DH Hunter with a bit of twist in the lower limb.  The arrow is an Easton XX78 tipped with a Magnus two-blade.

I shot her from the ground at about 30 yards on public land just a bit north of Columbus.  I hit her a bit farther back than I would have liked so I had to put another one in her when we found her.   Hopefully my next shot will be better.

Now the big question is - what to do with the hide.

:-D

Congrats!!

30 yards is a long shot for me. I won't take that long of a shot in the woods. You did good to find her and get another shot into her. She's a nice looking doe.

BTW you should be able to get the twist out of that limb easy enough. I think there may be a "how to" on it.

WAY TO GO!!!  Nice mature doe, too.  One of the toughest targets in the woods.  Good job on her recovery, too.     :clapper:

Great job. Great follow up too. Sometimes the toughest part of the hunt begins after the shot.

30 yards. That's what Iam talking about. I know that the ethical police try to limit free Americans, but I say if you can, do it. Art Young and Saxon Pope took game at 60+ yards. Did the ethical police forget that? Ok I am off my soap box. Great Job and Keep it up. By the way my longest ever was 27 Steps. Just thought you would like to know. Good LUCK
