AR Bear Opener
« on: September 26, 2015, 04:06:00 PM »
Sure is good to be back in a tree. Bow season opened today in AR. Sitting on my bear bait. Had them coming in everyday till this week. Acorns are falling pretty heavy but still had a nice bear come in several times on Thursday, rebaited yesterday. Came in this afternoon to sit till dark. Hopefully they'll be back.

No bears tonight but it was great being out. Probably hit it again in the morning. AR bear hunting revolves around the white oak acorn drop. Hopefully I'll get a few more hits on my bait before they totally give it up for acorns.

That's exactly what happened to me last year in AR! The bears were hitting the baits pretty well till about 10days before season, when the acorns started raining from the trees. I never laid eyes on an AR bear!!!

Good luck to you!

Yeah Bisch for the life of me I don't understand why they don't open the season around 9/15. I've hunted bear here just for the last 3 years and have had bears hitting the bait hard, daily up until around 9/21-9/24 and then they just disappear. They have a quota that they want to reach and once it's reached season is over so I don't know what difference it would make. You put in the work to bait, which is fun in itself but takes lots of time and effort, just to have them leave before the opener. I've had them hang on longer this year than the 2 before so maybe I'll still get a shot before it's over. Guess that's why they call it hunting.
