removing rustoleum from a bow

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with removing rustoleum from a bow?  I would like to be able to remove it without messing with the 2 part epoxy finish if possible..

any help is greatly appreciated.

I highly doubt you will get a coat of spray paint off the bow without taking all the finish off and completely refinishing it!!!

I have used thinner to take paint off, very carefully and slowly on a rag. But The paint I did was a very thin coat.

I will go very slow and careful, my largest concern is the thinner messing with the finish.  Is this a concern?

Hard to say. I used Formby's Furniture Refinisher on a Scotch Brite pad to remove spray paint from a '69 Kodiak. I did have to put quite a few coats of True Oil on it after though with wet sanding between coats.

I have found that zippo lighter fluid work very well to get gunk off a bow without removing the finish. I have not used it with rustoleum though. You might email the guy that runs the bow hospital bet he would know.

Daniel, did you spray this rustoleum on the bow? Second, do yo still have any of the same paint? Doesn't make any difference the color.

Check out some of the new citrus based removers. Also you need to find out what that paint cleans up with. That will give be you an idea what will remove it.
Maybe the bow maker can help?

I did not paint the bow.  The owner before me did.

Use a little lacquer thinner and some 4-0 steel wool. DO NOT USE ACETONE!!!. Acetone will take off the paint quicker, but will also damage the factory finish. Pour a little lacquer thinner in a glass bowl and use a small pad of 4-0 steel wool (NOT 3-0 WOOL!) Dip the wool in a tiny bit of thinner and begin to gently scrub. Keep watch for the finish coming up and lay off that area. Lacquer thinner will eat Rustoleum, but should not touch the finish. At most. You might have to use some polish on the finish when you are done stripping. No big deal.

Well. I went to work on the bow this evening.. I used laquer thinner and 0000 steel wool. It did go through the finish in a few places, but not completely. I did rough up all the epoxy and then refinish it with some spray sealant. Put 4 coats on it.

Can't say thank you enough to the gang.
