I originally had catwhiskers on it. It was noticeably louder that way, but still not terrible.
Yes, I have four Hush Puppies on the string- or at least four partials! I separate the Puppy into halves, and end up with two silencers that are about 1" wide out of each. To be specific, I like about 7 strands of wool on each puff. I steal strands off another set to balance it out if needed. That way, I get use the same amount of weight, but add it more strategically(?!?).
I've seen some data that suggests "harmonics" of the string make the vibrations worst at the 1/3 and 1/4 points, with other "points of interest" at 1/6. 1/8, etc.
It may or may not be true, but when I put the small puffs at 1/4 and 1/6, I really liked the result, and have all my bows set up like that now (the 1/3 point bothered me visually when shooting, so I went to 1/6).
Enjoy the experiment!
Daryl
PS- In case 1/4, 1/6th is not clear... if your bow happened to be 60" from the points where the string touches the limbs, I like the silencers at 10" and 15" from each point of contact. On the 62" Palmer, my spots are at 8 2/3" and 13". I mark these spots with Liquid Paper white out, then unstring the bow to install. Your results may vary (legal disclaimer!), but I like what this has done on my bows!
