Free haircuts

Well A mature doe...I messed up and bumbled around trying to find my stand so I laid my scent everywhere. She hit my scent trail and went on high alert stomping but I had a shot and took it at 26 yards from a treestand. I was aiming at a leaf 1/3 down on her chest and nailed the shot but she wasn't there.

LOL... better a miss then a wound.  Been there and have the T-shirt!

Amazing how much a deer can drop.  I've watched feathers fold UP going over a buck's back as they dropped hard enough to leave a dent in the forest floor!  :(

I now shoot for the heart / crease right behind the shoulder at the white line... if on alert, they can still duck it!

I've read here were the notorious TX deer are so wired, guys shot at one side only to hit them entry wises on the far side as they spun 180*.

That's fast!!!

Missed it by that much...
(It's funnier if you are old enough to have watched the "Get Smart" tv show..)   ;)

unfortunately, two times I saw feathers fold up over the back were great bucks!

Upside is that those two shots and buck live in my memory (for now as m emory fades) more then if they were on a wall....

I remember Get Smart, but more the gal he worked with and her outfit, then that line... I blame that on hormones of that age time in life!

My theory is that it just was not your turn, so it did not happen! Like said above, at least it was a nonlethal shot!

Better luck next time, Michael!

Looks just like my arrow when I gave a mountain goat a hair cut. One of those nice long-haired late October billies from SE Alaska.

It happens lol
I took a friend that never killed a deer with trad gear. Set his stand up for him before daylight, made sure he was settled in and went to my spot. About 7:30 I got a text with a bunch of explicits! I thought he had fell out the stand or something. Two big does came by at 5 yards and he was only 7 feet off the ground. He grazed the top of her back lol
He said, how could anyone miss such a chip shot? I could almost poke her with my broadhead lmao!
I'm sure he still tells that story.
Good luck on your next hunt

Next time Michael!  I had the exact same result except with turkey feathers last spring.  Unfortunately I can't say the turkey jumped the string.

I have rubbed turkey feathers over more than one turkey's back. I hate turkeys!    :banghead:
