What you'll see when your in the woods. I wasn't feeling well yesterday morning but I decided to go hunt anyways. So I sat a spot that I had previously scouted a while back. It's where 2 small drainages create a natural funell with a small ridged leading to the intersection. I've seen deer cross here before. Around 8:00 I hear coyotes sound off in the distance and hear some answer close by on the property. A few minutes later, all of a sudden a decent buck comes off the ridge on a dead run and passes around 60 yrds. Shortly after a coyote follows but stops on the edge of the small clearing. A few seconds after that a black coyote appears and follows where the deer went and disappears. So I give a little squeak and the first one turns and works my way but stops around 40 yrds to investigate some brush. All of a sudden the black coyote apears at 10 yrds and is crossing in front of me. As I start to draw he sees me move and bolts away. The first one is around 25 yrds now and doesn't know what's going on and stops broad side looking my way. So I turn on him and let go. Missed. Just barely! The dumb  thing runs a little ways and stops and starts coming back. He keeps looking my way but can't find me and quriosity is getting the best of him. I manage to get another arrow nocked as he starts to circle. But he sees me as i start to draw and skedaddles! I got the whole thing on video but  I can't figure out how to get the video off the cam and post it here.
Anyway, a little while later I see another black coyote about 150 yrds down the creek. ( probably the same one)
A few minutes after that I see a bobcat about 100 yrds off.
Then about 15 min later I see a BiG owl come floating over head silently and crash into a tree at full speed and begins flapping it's wings and takes off with a young squirrel squealing like crazy! I hadn't noticed the squirrel nest over head but he did!  It was a beautiful and wild morning and It just goes to show you, you never know what your gonna see!  And I truly believe that buck was headed my way!

Great Morning!

Hope to see this on film but unfortunately not much help on posting video..

I too wasn't feeling well yesterday AM but decided to go as well, but didn't have anything like that happen! Wind was swirling and got blown by a big nanny.. end of story..

Pick a spot and concentrate!

Crittergetter

Landon, I think that buck was working his way off the ridge down the funnel headed to his bedding area and probably would have come by a lot closer. I think the yotes where coming to the other coyotes calls and bumped the buck and gave chase. But, this is all speculation! Who really knows?!   :dunno:

TGMM Family of the Bow

That is the kind of things that make bowhunting soooooooo darned cool! You did not get anything, yep, you even missed, but it was still an awesome morning in the woods, watching the critters do what critters do!!!

The yotes do like full grown deer too. I killed one about 4 years back that was chasing a big doe, and not just for fun. I drew my bow and squeaked when he got to the right place and it was a done deal.

Sounds like a really great morning, Randy!   :clapper:
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Let's see if this works. The video is long because I forgot to turn off the camera. Nothing worth watching after they run off

You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

Ooh! That black one was cool. If i was to shoot one like that, it would cost me a bunch of money. Probably have to do a full body mount on one like that!

Bisch. Heck no brother! I would have the most awesome back quiver in the ozarks dude! Forget the full body mount. Awesome video partner!

a buddy of mine killed a gigantic black 'yote one time (with a rifle) that looked like a wolf. that thing was huge!

he was telling his taxidermy guy about it, and the guy asked him what he did with it. he said that he just threw it in the ditch after taking pics. the taxidermist said, "heck, i would have given you $700 for that thing!"

my buddy was sick about it for years!
