First Woody Kill
« on: October 18, 2015, 12:28:00 AM »
I made up my first batch of Douglas Fir woodies a couple years ago but never hunted with them.  I decided this would be the year and this morning I sent a 180 grain cutthroat tipped one through a young doe.    :bigsmyl:

I was hunting a stand we call the spine (because of line of rock that travels 75 yards or so and looks like the back of some pre-historic beast).

The stand is set up at the end of the spine feature where a couple trails intersect.  My view...

About 8:45 a spike and what I assume was his twin sister came walking down the trail right under my stand.  They were on me before I knew it and I was left sitting, unable to move a muscle.   I had dropped a glove at the base of the tree    :banghead:   and the spike stopped to smell it.  When he got a good whiff he jumped out of his skin and scampered 20 yards away.  The doe jumped but stayed close to the tree.  She nervously worked her way out in front of me 15 yards.  I turned my body slightly as she passed behind a tree.  A tree shielded me from the spike's view and when the doe looked his way I drew and shot from the sitting position.  The silent flight of my wood arrow ended right where I was looking.  Her death run only last 50 yards.  I watched her crash and die from my stand.

I took this pic right after the shot. haha

With her quartering away positing my arrow passed through the front of her opposite side shoulder, busting off with about 6 inches of my fletching sticking out.  I recovered the broken shaft and broadhead at the point of impact...

This was also the first deer I've taken with my new-to-me 60" Cari-bow Tuktu which pulls about 60# at my 30 inch draw.   Thanks for reading!
