small doe
« on: October 18, 2015, 09:05:00 PM »
my first trad harvest.
I got off the couch this morning, it was not pretty, but I got it done with traditional gear, a Bear Montana Longbow, Gold Tip Carbon arrows, and Simmons Tree Shark Broadheads @ 190 grains. Ten yards shot at daybreak, in a hasty ground setup. My upper limb, hit an overhanging limb, shot went errant. Hit behind diaphragm. But I slowly tracked spotty blood trail, found some larger puddles.  hardest tracking job in a while, back and fourth in the corn. I had to do a follow up shot on her. I am convinced that if I'd used anything smaller than the Simmons, I'd have not recovered her. She's not big, but I got it done. She's in the freezer. It was 30 degrees this morning, but my Asbell wool kept me toasty.

Congrats on the deer.  If you don't mind me asking, what weight is the Asbell jacket?  Been wanting one but don't have a good sense of what weight to buy

It takes character to stick with it when things aren't working out the way you want. Nicely done.
