Peacock in my turkey flock.

Have no idea why but a peahen is hanging out with my turkeys.Have pics and some of my hunters during Sq. season have seen her.I will try to post a pic.Has anybody seen this and is it common.Kip

Kip I don't know why it would do that. I know that those rusty red primary wing feathers make some pretty fletching though.

We had a pea hen hanging around our hunt club in GA a few years ago. When I first saw it I couldn't figure out what it was then realized a turkey didn't have the same hear waddles and it must be a pea hen.

Probably just lonely, her primaries make some crazy nice wing cases on fly fishing fly patterns too! They are related to Guinea Fowl also and Guinea Fowl are about the finest tasting domestic fowl I've ever eaten, so if you end up culling her, eat her and keep the primaries!

Yes! I seen a flock this morning with turkeys in it! There are about six peacocks that I see turkeys mix with them quite regularly.

Last year I had a small flock of turkeys walk thru my yard headed for the woods. Thought I was seeing things when a peahen walked up to my fence. The lady I work with is married to the local game warden. He said it wasn't unusual around this area.

A few years ago a peahen showed at my house in May/June and stayed for about 9 months.  We found her in my unfinished workshop standing in front of a window staring at her reflection.  We fed her turkey pellets, but she would only go to the food after I put a mirror by it-I guess she needed company.  Peafowl are ground nesters, so I watched her make a nest where she laid 4 eggs. She disappeared suddenly, eggs were gone-no shells-never found a body so I think a fox or raccoon ran her off.  Peafowl are ground nesters, you feed them turkey food, they prefer to run, but will fly, and they roost in trees (on top of your vehicles or barn), just like turkey.  If I remember correctly, turkey and peafowl are related, could be why they are flocking together.

The pea hen obviously "identifies" as a turkey....sorta like Rachel Dolezal.  Genetics be d****ed!

Couple of years ago, I called a peacock in from the neighboring farm during spring gobbler season. Quite a surprise to see a bright blue bird pop out of the fence-row.

A friend of mine had a peacock roost with the turkey behind his house for over a year! He has several pictures which I will try to get. No one knows where it came from or where it went.

its fairly common.  Peafowl are the pre-eminent game bird in a significant  part of the world...there are lots of recipes online.  They smoke up quite well
