I was checking out a new area a couple years ago during hunting season. I found a good run and a nice log to sit on.
I couldn't see very well so I thought I'd gently break some limbs. Fat chance!! Dry white pine the size of your finger. Each one sounds like a fire cracker!
So I said screw it, lets get it over with and then sit all day. I must have broken 50 limbs and branches in a minute or so.
when I was done I stood back to admire my handi-work. Look left-clear shooting lane. look right- clear shooo..... Nice buck ... holy craap.
I picked up my (not a bow) and had venison for supper.
I've never purposely rattled in a deer, but I don't think you can do it wrong :D
It does seem like getting them in bow range without getting busted would be a challenge
