Missed twice
« on: October 31, 2015, 07:14:00 PM »
Went out this morning and had a 6 pointer and spike around me. First time out with recurve as I am new to this Trad Stuff. Thanks to 1/4 away(Fred)...Well I missed 6 point at about 10 yards. Right over his back from tree stand. He took off and spike hung around and took shot at him and missed low.. I was ready to smash the bow but 1/4 away gave it to me so I couldn't do that.Called him when I came home and told him what happened and he told me don't give up and some kind words. Thanks Fred for getting me into this trad life.

Concentrate on a spot, and don't give up. You'll get it done. Good Luck.

Don't feel too bad. I have been doing this for 20yrs, and miss 3 deer in 2hrs on opening weekend!

IT happens sometimes!

Good luck your next time out.

At least you're getting shot opportunities. .... it's all about the experience!

Stick it out.... if it was easy, everybody would be doing it!

Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,

I took 2 shots last week. I missed once and made a bad shot on the next. So your doing better than me! I personally don't know anyone that has never missed!

Trad hunting can be very frustrating at times.  It is very temping to give up when you miss shots that you know would be slam dunks with other equipment.

Fixed it for you! There is no such thing as a slam dunk in archery hunting, not even with training wheels!!!

Every deer and pig I have shot at with a bow was a miss. Over their backs. Miss a four buy four twice both shots right between his antlers, he just sat there looking at me . I just sat down and cried like a little girl.  Keep at it, it will happen.

I have found more ways to miss than you can imagine.  Stick with it, the reward is worth the frustration a million time over.  I try to cherish every shot, even the misses, not easy in the moment but, later the disappointment will fade a little.

Even Howard Hill sometimes missed. It is all part of the game. Look at the bright side, your scouting and stand placement were spot on.

Last yr, missed two eight's(bucks), either one would of been my first buck with a stick bow. This yr. missed a 10 pt., two days later had a eight pt. and finally made the shot good. He's my biggest.

I have never hunted white tails, but I miss goats and pigs far more than I like to admit here in Hawaii!!  Yet, clean misses are far better on the mind than questionable hits!!!  practice. patients and form are your best allies in my experience.

Your stand placement and ability to calculate wind direction are killer it seems. It is only a matter of time. Keep at it. You will get one.

When I miss, and I do even after over 20 years of shooting traditional bows, it is always because I did not pick a spot.......always. It sounds like a simple thing to do but can be overlooked at the moment of truth. You must concentrate on a spot and your instincts and practice will take over. PICK A SPOT, hang in there, it's part of the challenge and the fun.

I missed a buck three times from the ground one time. 5 yards first shot, ten yards the second shot, then 15 yards the third shot. He stopped again at 20 yards and I said out loud, Ok You Win, now get the hell out of here.. LOL True story..
