LW Hand Climb and hernia's, could it be?
« on: November 06, 2015, 11:08:00 AM »
SO I have had this pinch pain in my lower abs and pointing to the spot everyone is saying its a hernia.         I'm not in the best shape and its a real workout going up a tree in my hand climber its like doing suspended leg raises at the gym except i'm hugging a tree and kissing them sometimes.

could i have a got a hernia from the hand climber?

Yep, go see a doc.  I hope it's just a strain but get it checked out.

I hurt my abs with the hand climber earlier this year. Hurt for a few weeks and went away. Never got it checked out though, just felt like muscle injury. Putting my feet in the right place on the climber and picking good trees since then, haven't had problems.

Hernias can be dangerous and if you think you have one, see a doc.  I had surgery for one a few years ago after my doctor explained the potential danger of ignoring it.

Using the hand climber was a real pain for me until I modified it with a wide strap for sitting while climbing.  Those hand climbers are for youngsters with muscles and no gut.

BTW, your title mentions sit 'n climb and hernias but I have no issues with those.

Since someone stole my hand climber, I have grown a gut.  The one I had was a real live widow maker, they probably did me a favor.

The hand climber with a strap turns into a sit n climb model. I never figured out why LW allowed them out the door without a nice strap.

I had one 16 yrs ago. The dr told that if they would rupture bowel would get run every where in your abdomen and could cause gang green.

yeah feces in your cavity is like the waiting game for death..

Black thanks I fixed the title this is for only the hand climber.

so they didn't find an immediate hernia, belly button came out a bit but they have me going to another place Monday to drink milk shakes and they want to check my lower abdomen where the pinch is coming from to be sure its not a case of diverticulitis.

You are lucky...my doctor has never referred me to a place that serves milk shakes.  He just refers me to the gym and says to avoid them.   :D

Tajue, I have a friend that cracked his ribs using the Lone Wolf hand climber.  I uses mine all the time without any problems though.  I don't hug the tree but use my elbows on the seat pad to pull myself up.  Doesn't seem to strenuous.

I used my hand climber yesterday to see how it felt and there was no pain so I think my stomach pinch is unrelated.

as for the strap Mod on the hand climber I tried it but with the seat section so close to the tree that the strap hangs from when sitting in nit the tree was almost between my knees and climbing felt impossible.

still think for the stick bow its the best climber so this isn't a diss the LW hand climber just wondering if there was something I was doing wrong.

Thought I may have cracked one in the grocery check-out line the other day. It kills me to breath and roll over in bed, but doesn't bother me to pull bow or use LW Climber.

I was using my LW Hand Climber and Summit OpenShot 6 wks after my last by-pass open heart surgery.

Had a hernia operation last yr waited til deer season was over and packed a deer out with the pulled hernia first one I had to make two trips. Luckily it was cold enough to wait til next morning to get the other half.

I did have a very rough time getting out of the woods with it one night. I'd just walked too much during the day with stand on back and really irritated the pull. It was one slow gently placed step at a time all the way.  Couldn't get off blood thinners to have the surgery...and it was bad recovery.

This is an older thread with a couple pics of my lone wolf with the strap for climbing. If you use it correctly, it works so much better. I don't use it totally for sitting. It's more like part of my weight is on the strap and part on the seat as I clasp the tree. If you don't like it, you're doing something wrong.
