whats up with that???

I tried to post this on the how to and it wont let me post a topic. I hope I dont get in trouble for putting it here.... but anyways i have a 60lb@28" game master 2 shooting 90 degree 4 fletch right helical on carbon express heritage 150's with 50 gr. brass inserts and 150 gr ww broadheads. my draw length is only 26 inches so I think they are spined right but I am having problems with flight. I also am shooting off the shelf with the factory material that builds it up a little. am I right for thinking they are spined right or what should I do? I want to shoot from the shelf but dont know what to do to get it right.. I could use any help available....

The how to is an Archive read only forum for build-a-longs and other informational threads. Not for questions.

I haven't tried the Carbon Express shafts, so I'm sorry I can't help answer your question. I'm sure someone who uses them will be able to give you an idea though.

Try to follow the bare shaft tuning method on OL's website.

What kinda flight problems are you having? You don't say in your original post whether it's left-right or up-down.....what length do you have your shafts cut to? I would think that you're possibly a little weak, unless you've got your arrows at around 27-28"
I personally shoot the 250s from a 57# (at my drawlength) longbow cut to 29" with 100gn inserts & 200gn points. Am I right in assuming you'd be drawing about 54#?

yes I am drawing about 54lbs. my arrows are cut to 26.5".. I was thinking it was so short that it would provide a little more stiffness to it. and the arrow seems to do a tight corkscrew. not sure what to do at this point.

A tight corkscrew? Did you fletch these arrows yourself?

They could be too stiff cut so short. It is easier to tune carbons with length than weight.Shoot a couple bareshafts at 20 yards and see what they do.

bjohnson----no, I'm not wanting to shoot you down at all! I just had a similar problem once when I wasn't getting uniformity when attaching my feathers. Sorry if I offended you.

Yes they would. It wouldnt affect the straightness of the arrow, just its flight characteristics. I had some bad ones once when using a cheapo fletching machine. I just couldn't get good uniformity on my feathers. I found that even a slight difference would cause enough resistance to make the arrow fly all sorts of messed up.

I also believe your arrows may be to short. These carbons are stiff out of the box and IMO are the reason we have to overweight the front end to make them fly decent. I had the same problem with my CE Hertiages. I ended up going to 250`s at 30 in. for my Wes Wallace 55lb. longbow. My issue with this is they fly like rocks after 25 yards. I shoot 3D ever week and I want arrows that can do double duty.
I have 2 bitz`s that I use and they seem pretty easy to use. I do not think that is what is causing you headachs. Also try raising the nock point a little. That may help with off the shelf shooting.
Good luck and do not give up.

I don't know specifically about the heritage shafts, but I've been shooting Cx terminators (4560's I think), my drawlength is 27.5 and my shafts are cut to about 29.5 and have 300 grains up front (100 gn brass insert and 200 grn field point)
(I had typed this up last night and never clicked add reply)

I shoot the Heritage 150's with my 56#@26 Deathwish longbow. I have the standard brass insert, 100 grain steel adapter and 125 grain glue on Magnus head. Shafts are cut to 28" and they fly real good. I shoot three fletch. A tight corkscrew flight sounds like a fletching problem to me.
Try shooting with different amounts of cant to your bow. Some of my bows like to be shot more upright, while some like to be more horizontal.

I am still working on it but I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out without havingsomeone over my shoulder to guide me. I am almost thinking that buying another bow would work but my friend has one (game master) and it shoots great no matter what arrow you put on it. I am trying to learn this the hard way I think. but as long as I can get it shooting good I dont care. and does anyone know how many strands I should be shooting on my bow string?

Make sure you have the correct wing for the clamp you have... Right wing/right helical, left wing/left helical.
Then make sure you have it angled down the shaft correctly. Right wing runs from left to right when looking from the rear of the arrow. Left is the opposite.
