Lone Wolf, Muddy or Millenium Hang On
«
on:
December 09, 2015, 06:41:00 AM »
I am looking at purchasing one of the three above hang on stands. I have hunted out of the Lone Wolf before, but never the Muddy or Millenium. It would be the Muddy Vantage or the Millenium M-100U, both of which have mounting brackets that can be left in the tree.
I would like pros and cons as to comfort, stability, quietness and ease of hanging them. The price for all three are similar, so that is not an issue.
Thanks,
David

Dave,
I have not tried all three but I have the Millenium M25 hang on and it is very stable and comfortable. I believe all their stands have the same style seat. I did hunt in a similar stand earlier this year and it wasn't uncomfortable but the seat had stretched a bit from use. I'm not sure if that was from being left out all year and exposure to the elements but It looked like it may only have a year or two left.

Have no experience with muddy or millennium. Cold temps up here with snow and ice on the platform make them really pop and creak. Lone wolf are the quietest platforms I've found so they're the only ones I have now. Wish the seat was a bit more comfortable for all day sits but being able to shift my weight periodically without having to sit like a statue for fear of a creaking stand makes up for the less cushy seat.

I love the Millennium's.
I hunt primarily on private land and don't need to pack stands in very far, which I think is the primary advantage of Lone wolf. IMO Lone wolf is built for ease of carry not comfort.
If you are looking for comfort, and a stand that you can sit in all day go with Millennium. They are the most comfortable stand I have ever sat in. Like sitting in quality lawn furniture. Mine are the 150's which have a larger platform, which comes in handy on those long sits for stretching your legs. If you are looking for something lighter to carry i think you will be happy with the 100U
Good luck.

I have Muddy and Lone Wolf. After my first Lone Wolf I bought 3 more. Love em. I like the right weight, the resistance to corrosion, stable footing, and adjustment options.
One of the most important features on my lock-ons is that it must be adjustable for the leaning trees I hunt from. The Muddy and Lone wolf both do this. Don't know about Millennium.

I'm in the Lone Wolf or XOP camp which is similar to Lone Wolf. The XOP has a better vertical Channel Spport & bigger cushion seat.... But to me, both are great stands...

I bought a millenium this year and like it ok. Does get a little heavy by the time you add bracket weight and climbing sticks etc., I highly recommend the ratchet strap brackets. I never could get the chain on to feel really secure.
My brother bought a lone wolf climber and recently had the handclimber crack. Called them up and no questions asked they are sending him a new one. I've got no experience with the muddy.

not any of the previous ones mentioned, but I hunt from a leverage and REALLY like it. But i also use modified leverage sticks, so i like the stack-ability of it, packs up very nicely!

I've only had experience with LW hang-on's. Liked them enough that I simply never looked elsewhere. As far as the seat goes, XOP makes a nice, thick padded one that fit's the older models.

Thanks everyone.
Bowwild, pros and cons on the Muddy you have?
I know the Lone Wolfs are quiet, but I also know they can become uncomfortable after extended sits.

I have both muddy's and milleniums. Both great lock ons. I move my stands a lot so I prefer the muddy's. They are lighter and tend to fit better in the places I like to tuck them. If planning a long or all day sit though the millennium would serve you best.

I replaced all of my Lone Wolf hang on stands with Chippewa Wedge Loc stands. They are light weight, rock solid, and very easy to hang with the strap harness.

I have the Lone Wolf and the Muddy. Lone Wolf is by far the best. Both are comfy and adjustable. The Muddy is not as well balanced and is much harder to hang. The Lone Wolf is so well balanced you just don't struggle to hold in place while you connect the straps. I know there are fixes but I had just as soon have it right out of the box.

I have no experience with the other two stands but I really like my Muddy Vantage. The seat is comfortable for long sits and you can level both the seat and the platform.
What I really like is the ease of hanging. The mounting bracket attaches by a heavy duty ratchet strap which is surprisingly fast and quiet if you're careful. You then simply pull up your stand and slide it into the keyhole slot on the bracket. Attach the lower cambuckle strap and it is rock solid.

Thanks guys for all of the info. I pulled the trigger last night on a Lone Wolf Alpha II and a set of LW climbing sticks. Somehow got the whole package for $240.00 at Cabelas! Couldn't pass it up at that price.
Thanks again,
David

I love my muddy vantage. I have two of them and close to 40 brackets.(i got a great deal on brackets recently) No more worrying if my stand is stolen, getting used by someone else, rusting in the woods etc. I am used to carrying it in now each time and it very easy to set up. With treehopper bolts I can hang a set in 10 mins. I am sure the millenium is more comfortable but it is much larger and a little heavier. I hunt suburbia with a lot of hunter competition and the muddy vantage system is perfect for me.

Both the Millennium and Lone Wolf are nice stands. I used both for the past few years. The Millennium seat is the most comfortable and the platform I believe is a bit wider and longer than the LW. Both are great stands. If price is an issue go with the M25 or M50 Millennium. The M50 has the capability to level the platform and is easier to hang.

I have never been able to justify the cost for a lone wolf and really like my hang muddy stand. For the price it can't be beat.
