After seeing that buck I moved spots and walked a laid down a scent trail across the top of the ridge. It didn't take long the next morning before I saw a buck drop out of the field and hit the trail. With his nose down all the way he made it under 10 yrds of my ground setup(a couple red oaks close together) and turned broadside. The shot was true and the Ace express exited the opposite side. Less than 40 yrds later he was down!

He wasn't the buck I had seen before but I wasn't about to let him walk by.

To finish this story we have to go back to the beginning. My original goal coming into trad archery was to hunt with a bow that I had made. Specifically a selfbow but 8 years or so have gone by since then. Every year I work it after season but have never been happy with my result. I've also broke a few along the way and that always sets me back. Then bow shoots start in January and it gets pushed to the back burner again.

Not this year. I happy to say that I will be finishing my season with an osage selfbow and river cane arrows that I built.

My year would have been made with getting an elk!!!!! But to have your son along and bag a doe then a buck........ and you're not done yet!!!!

You DID have a good year!
