desperate to find two matched water snake skins
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:35:00 PM »
Or some other than rattlers- for a recurve

I've put this on bow making supplies thread, but maybe its the wrong time of year and I need to wait till summer is in full swing?

I have a high end bow that needs skins...banded water snake, diamondback water snake, water mocassin, fer de lance, almost anything interesting will work.

I just can't find a source...the bull snakes I have found are nice, but reminiscent of rattlers and the bow owner doesn't really want that.

Can anyone help? 678-300-2883 [email protected]

Thanks!

Mods- if this isn't allowed...just scrap it.

What Ray also didn't tell you, is this is a very, very special project for a very good friend...not for Ray's bow but for one he is taking under his wing.

After a previous thread discussing the availability of skins I can give you my word that my eyes will be peeled and my little .22 single-six will get a lot more "hip-time" as it warms up. (sorry to the purists...a revolver I can carry while working, a bow...not so much)

We've got a ton of copperheads and moccasins in my area.

Knowing that my promises don't do your timeline any good, and hoping someone has got whatchya need....ttt

Try Mike Yancy at Pine Hollow bows.  He always has a good supply of skins from different snakes.

Ray, I got some skins I'll bring down next week you can check out.  I don't know what they are but they're different.

A certain place I fish a lot is loaded up with watersnakes. I'll keep my eyes open for ya.

May 7th I'll be on a canoe trip for a week. We always have to swat off the watersnakes. Catch'm in our minnow traps too! I'll see what I can gather and let you know then!

Just an Idea google some snake dealers or go to a show, when these breeders have a snake that dies they just toss it.My neighbor does it and he breeds pythons and boa's you might get a set for free.

Ray, if you can wait til about June I should have several. My sons catch 'em along a canal and in the adjoining farm ponds....they catch 'em live and pick the ones that have recently shed their skin (bolder colors), match up a pair and turn the rest loose. They get bit pretty good sometimes as those water snakes are fairly aggresive..8^)....but nothing severe.

I put a pair on an old Flatbow of mine and it's gorgeous! I also use a smaller specie along with various other snakes they catch for wrapping arrows....sorry I can't post pics yet but will eventually.
