Woodsman blood trail pictures please!
« on: August 15, 2012, 01:12:00 AM »
I have nearly decided to use Woodsmans this year for whitetails.   I have used 2-blades in the past out of my 42-44# bows.

My friends say I have plenty of steam at 44# and nearly 500 grains for penetration.  They are flying great out of my setup.

So, I am hoping to see some pictures of blood trails made with Woodsman broadheads.

Thanks, Skychief.

I don't have pictures but one of the does I shot last season left a 12 inch or so around spot of blood on impact and for the short 80 yard tracking job the blood trail was walk able. By that I mean I didn't have to stop walking along the whole trail. Just big gobs of blood every time her feet hit the ground.

no pictures to show but you will not regret the change.  The WW style of BH I feel is the absolute best out there for whitetail type critters.  there only used to be WW, but now there appear several similar in design.  I still shoot the originals just because I have many.  When they are all gone I will probably swith to a solid one piece machined style WW head like the WW elite or the VPA head.  I have always shot 52-56 pound bows and shot 2 blade BH for penetration until the WW came out.  Made the swith and the WW in no means kills anything better than a 2 blade head, but the overall average blood trail from a WW is better than any two blade head.  I also did not see any appearant decrease in penetration, however about the same time I switched to Easton Axis style carbon shafts.  One thing about them is you will need to spend some time sharpening them and you need to diamond tip the point.  The needle point on them will curl.  You will also need a good wide file, a minimum 6 inch long diamond stone, and a set of ceramic sticks if you desire to hunt with a hair poppin sharp WW.

Don't worry about the blood trail because you will probably see it fall. Last year I shot an elk at 30 yds. with the woodsman elite, 59 lb. longbow, total penetration, recovery 25 yards. I shot the woodsman elites and a popular, fairly wide 2 blade head of the same wt. into a foam block. The woodsman elites penetrated 1 1/2" - 2" deeper every shot!!!
